Amnesty International has called on Bahrain authorities to release two teachers, arrested after they led a strike in March.

The group said they had been held purely for involvement in peaceful protests, and there are allegations that one of the pair has been tortured during her time in detention.

International panel begins Bahrain investigation

A five-member commission, headed by Mahmoud Cherif Bassiouni, will begin investigating the five months of protest in the country that left at least 32 dead.

The panel will meet with government and military figures, as well as those involved in protests and those who have been detained.

Findings will be reported by October 30th.
